NEWSLETTER ISSUE 3 - 2014

We know February is a short month, but are we the only ones who feel that we are flying through 2014???  Albeit probably not as much on two wheels yet as we would like! but “the season” is tantalisingly close now with our first ride-out of the year only a couple of weeks away.

Our main event in February was our Winter Social over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd and we were thrilled that 71 of you joined us for dinner on the Saturday evening.  Hopefully you managed to spot yourselves at least once in the dvd we ran throughout the night – putting it together over the winter certainly gave us some great memories and a lot of laughs!  We would also like to take this opportunity to give a big thanks to Chris for bringing his guitar and entertaining us throughout the evening and also to those of you who took to the mike and sang your hearts out…………….. although we do think that the version of “Suspicious Minds” which Hans-Peter sang will be etched on our memory for a long time to come.

As mentioned above, our first ride-out of the year will be on Sunday 16th March when we shall be riding to the Shropshire Hills.  Details are posted on our website – www.dragonmototours.co.uk with the start point at The Let’s Eat café just south of Warrington and a departure time of 9.15am.  The route is around 150 miles and we anticipate being at our dispersal point around 3.30pm.  Whilst not compulsory, we would appreciate it if you could give us an indication if you are planning to join us on the day.  Our next ride-out will then be 6th April which will take in the Berwyn Mountains.

We are looking forward to joining the North Wales Motorcyclists at the launch of their new club on Sunday 23rd March.  This will be held at Airbus, Broughton (post code for satnav is CH4 0DR) from 10am until 4pm.  Also in attendance on the day will be A&D Motorcycles of Denbigh, Colwyn Bay Motorcycles, Moto R, BikeSafe and North Wales Advanced Motorcyclists.  For further information please e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. In April we have our first tour of the year to North Wales and we follow on from there with our West Coast of Ireland tour 8th – 12th May, at the time of writing we only have 1 space available on this tour.
Looking ahead to the summer we have our two longer European tours this year :-
-    “Lakes & Mountains of the Vosges” which is from Saturday 5th July to Sunday 13th July, this is a two centre holiday with our hotel in the Northern Vosges situated in a pretty mountain village where you can enjoy a swim before pre-dinner drinks on the sun terrace at the end of a day of riding through the Vosges National Park where we will visit the Castle of Lichtenburg, ride across the border into Germany and take in the spectacular panoramic views from Dabo.  We have a short transition day to our hotel for 3 nights in the Southern Vosges which is located in the lakeside town of Gerardmer and has a pool and spa where you can again relax at the end of each day.
-    Harz Mountains and The Romantic Road, Germany, this is a two centre holiday, we shall be staying in the Harz Mountains for 3 nights, before riding further south into Germany for a further 3 nights where we shall be staying in one of the spa towns on the Romantic Road.  This tour also gives you an opportunity to ride along part of the B500, we ride on the high Black Forest road which offers not only fantastic views of the Forest but an open and flowing road on which to ride.  Both hotels in our main destinations have pools and spa treatments are also available.

For details of these and our other tours, please either visit our website or contact us and we can talk through things with you.
You may have seen from facebook that “the shed” mentioned in last month’s letter has been completed, some of you had enquired as to where we got it from and if you click on the link below you can check it out:  www.asgardsss.co.uk

We eventually got out on our bikes around North Wales towards the end of February, it was good to see several bikes out taking advantage of a sunny day for a change.  We managed to dodge the showers – luckily one major one came through as we were “holed” up in a café in Ruthin!!!  There were several bikes up on the Ponderosa, Llangollen and we hope Mark enjoyed his ride home to Warrington, having been out on his new MotoGuzzi Stelvio for the first time since buying it only a couple of days before.

And finally… we have recently been forwarded the attached e-petition link which you might be interested in taking a look at.  It is regarding the road tax for motorcycles and whether it should be brought in line with cars based on their emissions rather than their engine size:  http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48869

We hope this letter has found you well and here’s to a year of safe riding.
