NEWSLETTER ISSUE 6 - 2014

This will be a fairly short letter this month as we are well into our 2014 touring season now and the days and weeks are whizzing by!

We started May off with our 5 day tour to the West Coast of Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way which did live up to its title for some of the time…… but in no way dampened anyone’s spirits.  This was the first tour where we had 9 different bike manufacturers represented – Kawasaki, Triumph, Honda, BMW, Yamaha, Harley Davidson, Moto Guzzi, Suzuki and Aprilia and they all suited the routes we had planned in for the tour.  You can read more about this particular tour on our blog at www.dragonmototours.co.uk   We are certainly looking forward to going back to Ireland in September 2015 when we shall ride through the counties of Donegal and Kerry.

Also during the month we had our France, Ride & Dine tour over the last May bank holiday and as with all of our tours, we would like to thank everyone who joined us on this one, with over half of the group new to us.  One of the comments we had at the end of tour was to say that the roads were “grintastic” which sums things up perfectly for us.  Northern France is often an area which is overlooked but for a 5 day break riding open roads with sweepies and twisties flowing through the vineyards of the Champagne and Burgundy wine regions and elevated roads through the Morvans National Park, we firmly believe that the next time you are heading for the Alps or Pyrennees it might just be worth your while taking in some of the regions we rode through on this tour.  Our pillions had re-badged the tour as “Wine & Dine” and they certainly took the opportunity for a glass of something chilled over lunch whenever possible!!!  The riders had to wait until the evening to try and catch up… :D

Between tours this month we had a ride-out on the 18th May over the Denbigh Moors and the weather, roads and scenery were excellent, in particular the views of the Snowdonia range from the hills we were riding over near Llanwrst were stunning….. so much so, we stopped for photos and one of them is now our main facebook cover and you can find more photos from the ride-out via the link below:

Our next ride-out is the 29th June when we shall go further into North Wales and onto the Isle of Anglesey for the day, at the time of writing this letter we have 11 spaces available but as with our previous ride-outs we hold a reserve list and as the date approaches we keep everyone updated.  The details for this shall be posted on our website soon.

We have been asked what availability we have for the remaining tours for this year and to update you we have:-
-    2 spaces on the Lakes & Mountains of the Vosges tour 5th – 13th July
-    2 spaces on the Harz Mountains & Romantic Road of Germany tour 1st – 10th August
-    Due to circumstances we have had to cancel the Off-Road tour in June but we do have availability on the one 31st August, 1st & 2nd September which combines 2 days of road touring through Mid & North Wales with one day off-road riding with Mick Extance and a presentation evening on the Monday where Mick will talk through his Dakar Rally experiences.
-    Our Belgium & Luxembourg tour in September is now fully booked
-    The last tour of 2014 3rd – 5th October in Mid Wales is currently full pending confirmation from 5 outstanding enquiries – if you are interested in this tour could you please contact us as soon as possible.

In our last two Newsletters we advised of some event and tour dates for 2015 and we have three more to add to this as shown below:-

-    Shropshire & Herefordshire 23rd to 26th July 2015 – 3 nights

-    Details of other 2015 tours already announced can be found in our previous Newsletter and a copy of this can be found on our website.  We are currently finalising a further 2 tours for 2015 and will advise you of these in due course.
If you would like to place an expression of interest in any of our 2015 tours and/or the Winter Social, could you please let us know.
During May we joined the Wirral Advanced Motorcyclists for one of their social evenings where Mick Extance gave a talk and we hope to join Poynton Motorcycle Club for their social evening on the 4th June.
Our North Pennines & Yorkshire Dales tour starts on the 6th June and we are looking forward to riding some of the roads which will be used when the Tour de France starts on the first weekend in July.  Our “tentative link” with the Tour de France continues on our Lakes & Mountains of the Vosges tour as we are leaving the Southern Vosges on the morning that the Tour cycles in!
There are a few of you who have either expressed an interest in an Assessment day with Geraint or have had them bought for you as presents, the diary is getting booked up for these during June and we would appreciate it if you could contact us to arrange a date at your earliest convenience.
We have some sad news to end this letter on and that is to pass our sincere condolences to Tracy Hawley and her family from AbaSport as her husband Chris sadly passed away on the 26th May.  Chris and Tracy have been in the motorcycle industry for several decades supplying a range of motorcycle accessories such as tank covers and bags etc., and have been loyal supporters of all the motorcycle shows throughout the length and breadth of the UK.  Abasport will continue to trade although please be advised that they have closed the website down.  If you have any enquiries for items from them, please get in touch and we will forward your contact details onto Tracy.
Here’s hoping we all have a safe and happy summer of riding.

Geraint & Jan…….. The ‘s !!
