DragonMotoTours - Newsletter Issue 8 - 2014

We’ll start this Newsletter by looking forward to 2015 and our tours are now up on the website www.dragonmototours.co.uk Please contact us if you are interested in any of these as we have already taken several bookings. For next year we have 6 tours in the UK and 6 in Europe and Ireland, the first tour starting mid April 2015 and the last will be in October. We also have 3 On & Off-Road tours in Wales, in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Our Winter Social is planned for the end of February where you will have an opportunity to catch up with people you may already know from our tours and ride-outs and also to make new friends. If you would like more details on this could you please e-mail us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

MotorcycleLive at the NEC will be here before we know it and we will present on the Kawasaki stand in Hall 3 from the 22nd to 30th November. If you are paying a visit to the show come along and say hello and we look forward to catching up with you.

There is a saying “you won’t move forward if you’re looking behind”, but at times it is good to reflect on what has been happening in the recent past and as we draw closer to autumn writing about our summer tours has brought wonderful memories of the people who joined us, the places we visited and the all important roads we enjoyed riding.

As we are sure you’ll agree, it has been a good few months on the weather front for riding, although our Vosges tour in early July was not quite as “blue sky” as we would have liked with The Routes des Cretes fog bound for the two days we were riding it! But that was only 2 out of the 9 days and the region is full of quiet roads, castles, mountains and pretty villages with great cake shops which kept everyone happy……. We had plenty of sunshine for our 4 days in Northumberland making for a beautiful day to ride over the causeway to Lindisfarne. In August we were back in Europe for most of the month with our tours of the Harz Mountains and Romantic Road in Germany and Jura Mountains into France and Switzerland. Sandwiched in the middle of these were 5 days when we were in France doing various bits of research accompanied by the tail end of Hurricane Bertha which made for some interesting riding!!!! At least we did not encounter mud…… that was until we had our dual on & off-road tour at the beginning of September.

This was the first tour of its kind for us where we worked in partnership with The Lake Vyrnwy hotel and The Mick Extance Kawasaki Experience to put together 2 days of touring through Mid & North Wales together with a day off-roading in the Tanat Valley with Mick and his team. A day off-road is not only a chance for a lot of banter and fun but it helps with skills for your on-road riding as those who joined us can testify and as mentioned above we will be putting 3 of these tours on in 2015.

To round off our European touring for 2014, we had a 4 day tour into Belgium and Luxembourg in mid September, smooth roads, great scenery and interesting places to visit such as The Bastogne Museum made for a perfect autumn tour, we are just hoping that the good weather holds for our Mid Wales tour coming up on the first weekend in October. You can catch up on pictures from our various tours and ride-outs by visiting our facebook page photo albums.

Over the autumn and winter months you may wish to keep your riding skill base up and Geraint is taking bookings for Assessment Days, several of these have been booked as gifts for both birthdays and Christmas with details available on our website.

We don’t know if you are aware, but from the 1st October 2014 the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle and you may be wondering what this means to you? In summary, to drive or keep a vehicle on the road, you will still need to obtain vehicle tax and the DVLA will continue to send you a renewal reminder when your vehicle tax is due to expire. This applies to all types of vehicles. More information can be found at www.gov.uk/government/news/vehicle-tax-changes

We are often asked what we will do with ourselves over the winter months? As it goes, quite a lot with planning for 2015 and 2016!! We are firstly taking a holiday in late October combining it with a trip to MotoGP at Sepang which we are looking forward to. As a result our next Newsletter will be a couple of months away and we hope you have plenty of opportunity to ride your bikes over the coming weeks.
