10. DragonMotoTours Bauges Mountains & Aosta Valley Tour : 4th - 11th August 2015

Please note that this tour is now fully booked, however, you can contact us to be considered for a cancellation should it arise or to enquire about any of our other tours.

This 8 day tour into Eastern France starts with an overnight stop in the Bourgogne region before we ride towards the Alps with two nights on the French side and two across the border in Northern Italy. If you enjoy motorcycling with stunning mountainous scenery as your backdrop, then this is the tour for you.

On nights two and three of the tour, we will be staying in a 15th century chateau in a valley of vineyards and an ideal base to explore the excellent motorcycling roads in this region. We are close to the town of Chambery which is known as a "crossroads to the Alps" and is situated with the 14 summits of the Bauges Mountains in its sights. This range makes up part of the long chain of "Pre-Alp" mountains and is bordered by two of the largest natural lakes in France, Lac d'Annecy and Lac du Bourget.

Whilst in the Bauges we have Cols to ride over including the Cormet de Roselend and Col de la Colombiere, wine routes to ride through and lakes to circumnavigate, whether that be by a boat trip on Lac du Bourget and lunch in the picturesque nautical resort of Aix-les-Bains which is less than 30 minutes from our hotel, or by motorcycling a circular route around Lac d'Annecy and a visit to the historic old town centre of Annecy itself which has a network of canals supplied by water from the lake giving it the appearance of being the "Venice of the Alps".

As we continue this tour we ride over the Petit Col du St Bernard crossing into Italy at the summit before descending into the Aosta Valley which is bordered by France and Switzerland and is surrounded by some of the highest peaks in Europe including Mont Blanc. Our family run hotel is in a small village and will be our base for the next two nights. You may wish to take some time out and a short walk to the 14th century castle which overlooks our hotel, or take a ride to one of the many thermal baths in the area such as Pre-Saint-Didier or Saint-Vincent where you can relax and regenerate yourself with hydro massages. Or you can join us on a ride-out out of Val D'Isere to the summit of the Col D'Iseran which, at 2,770 metres, is the highest paved pass in the Alps.

We shall depart the Alps with a spectacular route over the Grand St Bernard pass as we descend briefly into Switzerland before riding into the Jura Mountains for an overnight stay. We then head north making use of the excellent French route nationale into the Vosges riding through the Foret de Darney and the Lorraine Regional Park. After all the riding you will have done over the last few days you may wish to relax in the pool of our hotel for the last night of the tour prior to enjoying dinner.

The Eurotunnel terminal at Calais is our departure point of the tour and we plan to arrive there on the last day to take a crossing which will provide you with an estimated arrival time in the UK of early afternoon.

Total mileage for this tour will be approximately 1,800 miles if you join us on our planned ride-outs.
