13. DragonMotoTours Dumfries, Galloway & Scottish Borders Tour : 17th - 20th September 2015

Please note that this tour is now fully booked, however, you can contact us to be considered for a cancellation should it arise or to enquire about any of our other tours.

Our second tour into Scotland in 2015 is a short break of 4 days of motorcycling on some of the best roads in the Scottish Borders and through Dumfries and Galloway.

We will be staying in South Lanarkshire for the 3 nights of this tour and our hotel provides us with an excellent base for taking in the riding roads in this part of Scotland.  Our route on day 1 of the tour starts near Blackburn riding north via the Ribblehead Viaduct and over the Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales with lunch in the highest market town in England.  We will have a mid-afternoon stop as we cross into Dumfries and Galloway before arriving at our hotel.

Dumfries and Galloway will be the focal point for one of our routes and the Scottish Borders the other for the ride-out days we have planned.  As we ride west towards the Galloway Forest the scenery varies from mountains to valleys, forests to coast all to be enjoyed on some fantastic roads.  Galloway is the largest forest park in Britain and has several visitor centres where we can indulge in some of the delicious ice-creams and cakes their cafes have to offer after we have enjoyed riding around the many lochs in the area.  You will also have the opportunity to take in the Dalveen Pass which has bend after bend to ride as you take in the views of the Lowther Hills which are some of the highest mountains of southern Scotland.  You can visit the Mull of Galloway - the southernmost point of Scotland, and if you are feeling particularly energetic why not visit the Lighthouse and climb the 115 steps to the top and be rewarded with stunning views over the sea.

To the east of our hotel are the Scottish Borders and some of the most amazing motorcycling roads in the region, wide open roads which follow the River Tweed and the shores of St Mary's Loch which is the largest stretch of water in southern Scotland.  The Lammermuir Hills, which in literal terms are "the moorlands of the lambs" provide a first-rate riding route over quiet roads passing the Whiteadder Reservoir and open out to provide clear views of the North Sea.  The Borders are also home to some very fine Castles and we have planned in a vist to Floors Castle in Kelso which is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland.

The major cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than an hour from our hotel or you may wish to visit Rosslyn Chapel, founded in the 15th century and in more recent times was famously featured in the Da Vinci Code film.

As we leave Scotland we will use a combination of motorway and cross country routes to head south to our dispersal point in Lancashire.  Riding on one of the finest motorcycling roads through Dumfries and Galloway, we shall stop for morning coffee in Moffat before crossing into Cumbria and North Yorkshire.  After a mid-afternoon stop in Ingleton, we pick up the M6 motorway south to our dispersal point.

Total mileage for this tour will be approximately 800 miles if you join us on our planned ride-outs.
