...it is a perfect time of year for motorcycling in this region with rolling hillsides, open quiet roads and forests making for a relaxing few days of riding.
With an afternoon crossing from Folkestone to Calais we ride to the outskirts of Lille where the tour will begin with a welcome dinner. On day two we ride through the Ardennes crossing the borders of Belgium and France into the Regional Park de l’Avenois to our hotel set in a small community in the heart of the Argonne Forest. We locate ourselves here for the remaining 4 nights of the tour where excellent French cuisine awaits together with regional wine, coffee and new for this year a music and culinary evening on the Saturday.
This region of France may not have high mountains but many elevation changes on the rolling hillsides provide great visibility and sweeping bends. We have three ride-out days planned to include sections of the Champagne Tourist route which winds through vineyards and picturesque villages, with lunch in a local auberge. The Belgian border is within an hour of our hotel and the forests of the Ardennes provide excellent motorcycling roads. You will experience several changes to the landscape rising from deep river valleys onto high plateaus as we ride through the Semois Valley stopping in Rochehaut, literally translated as “High Rock” where you can take in the views of the meandering river below you.
Our hotel is close to locations steeped in history from both World War I and II and we will be riding to visit some of the memorials in the area such as a monument dedicated to the Battle of the Marne and to visit to one of the destroyed villages which local people have worked on in recent years as an open air memorial .
New for our 2019 tour of the Ardennes on the Saturday evening our hotel will be hosting a four course culinary evening together with a dance party themed from the 1980’s. Whilst dancing is optional (!) we are certain that you will more than enjoy the party atmosphere and cuisine at the end of a day of riding the French roads.
For the final day of the tour, we have a country route through the Champagne-Ardenne region before picking up the autoroute near Reims riding north to Calais for an afternoon Eurotunnel crossing to the UK.
