Our fourth autumnal Flavour of Spain tour includes two new destination locations set within mountain regions providing superb bases to enjoy the array of wonderful motorcycling roads through some of the lesser travelled parts of the country, exploring National and Regional Parks, the cuisine and hospitality of the Spanish people.
We start and end the tour with overnight sailings on Brittany Ferries from and to the UK with 10 nights in four locations in Northern and Central Spain. On arrival at Santander we ride over the Los Tornos Mountain Pass, along the northern shores of the Emblase del Ebro to our hotel located in the heart of the Fuentes Carrionas National Park. We have 2 nights in this stunning location with a ride-out around the Camporrendondo Reservoir and north into the heart of the Picos de Europa, one of the most well-known motorcycling areas in Spain.
Our next destination is into the Sierra de Gredos a mountain range containing five river valleys connected by excellent motorcycling roads with stunning scenery at every turn. For the next 3 nights we will be staying in the first of the Parador hotels dating back to 1928 with the stone building retaining a typical Spanish style.
Ride-outs from our base in the Gredos mountains include lunch in the Cabaneros National Park, the valleys of the Rivers Tajo and Tietar. Riding to the summit of Puerto del Pico is a must when in this region, hairpins and curves take you to over 1,300 metres with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
The tour continues with a route through the Sierra de Rincon a beautiful mountain range with great riding roads as we make our way to the east of Madrid to our third hotel which is to be our base for the following 3 nights. The hotel was once a 16th century university and has retained much of the original architecture. We have two full days for ride-outs taking you on wide open roads, smooth tarmac with hardly a car to be seen! We visit a beautiful ancient village home to the only three-gated roman arch in Spain ride through the canyons of the Rio Lobos, follow the Duero river valley and into the Sierra de Pela and Sierra de Alto Rey
We head to Northern Spain for the final 2 nights of our tour riding through the Pico de Urbion, ascending to over 1,700 metres. The red rock boulder formations form high walls along the valley ride to Logrono before we arrive at our last hotel in the Cinco Villas district, a historic region bordering Navarra and the province of Aragon. The Parador is located within a walled medieval town offering views of the surrounding mountains and valleys and our ride-out the following day will take you through the Roncal Valley in the Southern Spanish Pyrenees and along the shores of the Yesa Reservoir.
Our sailing is from the port of Bilbao with an overnight crossing to Portsmouth where we are due to arrive mid-afternoon.
