New for 2019 is our tour to the Saarland and Moselle regions of Germany, our family run hotel is close to the border with Luxembourg with the area being home to superb motorcycling roads and beautiful scenery.
The tour starts with an afternoon crossing to France via Eurotunnel followed by a welcome dinner at our first hotel of the tour on the outskirts of Lille. The following morning we ride through the Ardennes forest of Belgium and cross through Luxembourg to our hotel for the following 3 nights in the Saarland region of Germany.
This tri-border region is perfect for motorcycling with roads which have wonderful riding curves as the routes follow the flow of the rivers Saar and Moselle. We will be based in Germany close to the borders of Luxembourg and France which provides us with a variety of ride-out opportunities. Our hotel backs on to the Cloef viewpoint, a rocky outcrop overlooking a horseshoe shaped curve of the river Saar, the best views are from the purpose built viewing tower and treetop walk which is only a short distance away.
Two ride-outs are planned with one following the path of the Saar river and continuing into the Eifel nature park, home to fantastic open roads through this low lying mountain range. The area is often overlooked by motorcycle riders outside of Germany, but with tight rural sections on well surfaced roads it makes for a relaxing ride as the roads firstly follow the loops and meanders of the rivers before heading into the forests and hills.
The second ride-out takes in the Moselle river, crossing into Luxembourg and through the Mullerthal an area often referred to as "Little Switzerland" with its rocky outcrops. We will ride through the vineyards and visit Bernkastel-Kues, this twin town is often called the heart of the Moselle. The old town of Bernkastel is full of charm with half-timbered houses and castles while Kues is famous for its wineries and taverns. The vineyards surrounding the town are amongst the oldest in Germany and provide a superb backdrop as our route follows the path of the river and are best seen from the boat ride which is included in our visit to this town.
On our penultimate day we ride through the French Ardennes to our final hotel of the tour set in the heart of the Argonne forest. That evening there will be excellent French cuisine to enjoy together with regional wine and coffee. The following morning we have a country route before picking up the autoroute near Reims, the capital of the Champagne region ride north to Calais for an afternoon Eurotunnel crossing to the UK.
