....... which will give you an insight into how much we enjoy riding the roads and also how popular this tour is with our clients. We have three destinations in the regions of Cantabria, Castile & Leon and Alava staying in two 4* Spa hotels and a Parador where you will be able to savour the cuisine typical of the regions at the end of a day of riding through the varied landscapes
Having taken an overnight sailing into Santander we ride through the Montana Oriental region to our first spa hotel in Solares. We are in this location for 2 nights with a ride-out planned over Portillo Lunada, a high mountain pass in the Cordillera Cantabrica mountains, continue through the Collados del Ason Nature park and along the southern shores of the Emblase del Ebro.
The tour continues with a ride to our second spa hotel which was once a 16th century university and has retained much of the original architecture. The old town square in El Burgo has many bars and cafes where you can soak up the Spanish culture each evening before dinner. We have two full days of ride-outs planned taking you on wide open roads with smooth tarmac with hardly a car to be seen!
We’ll take you on the Ruta del Duero where riding on flowing ribbons of tarmac can be enjoyed as the roads curve their way through the river valley. Riding through the Urbion Mountains and the Sierra de Pela and Alto Rey you will be rewarded with spectacular views over the landscape as we summit to over 1,500 metres. The region is steeped in history with castles and fortresses dotted throughout the hills and sleepy villages. One such place we visit is the cobbled streets of the village of Medinaceli home to the only three-gated roman arch in Spain. Our routes include a ride into the Rio Lobos Canyons which are close to our hotel in El Burgo, a photo stop at the viewpoint high above the deep ravine is a must.
As we head further north we ride into the Rioja region, famous for its wines and scenery where we shall stay in a Parador which was originally a 12th century hospital and retains many original features such as the gothic archways and beautiful church. Our ride-out from this hotel with take in the National Parks through the Urbasa and Andia mountains.
We have a short route on our last day of just over 100 miles as we return to the port of Santander for an overnight sailing to Plymouth riding through the Cantabria mountains and over Los Tornos pass.
