.......as we travel from France to the Saarland region of Germany, onto the Romantic Road with picturesque half-timbered houses and fairy tale castles, into Bavaria with the majestic Austrian Alps as a backdrop and finally through the Alsace and Argonne Forest regions of France.
Our tour centres around two main destination locations with three nights in a picturesque Spa town on the Romantic Road south of Wurzburg and a further three nights in a beautiful lakeside setting with stunning views of the Ammergau and Tyrol Alps. To start the tour we take an afternoon Eurotunnel crossing with an overnight stay in Northern France which will leave you well rested to enjoy the roads through Belgium and Luxembourg as we cross the border into Germany. Be prepared for a hearty meal and warm welcome from our family run hotel on the second night setting you up nicely for the riding roads to come.
We have chosen Bad Mergentheim as our base on what is one of the oldest of the German holiday routes. As you ride along the Romantic Road it soon becomes apparent why it was so named as you travel through towns such as Weikersheim which is home to one of the many fairytale castles dotted along this spectacular motorcycling route. We continue to ride through vineyards and some of the best preserved medieval and walled towns in Germany such as Rothenburg and Dinkelsbuhl which are home to multi coloured timbered houses and cafes tempting you with delicious German “kuchen”. We will also take you on excellent riding roads surrounding the Romantic Road flowing through open country into the Odenwald which has sweeping bends and switchbacks through the forest and unexpected sights such as a space rocket (we kid you not!).
As we transition to Bavaria we continue along the Romantic Road to its most southerly point on the outskirts of Fussen where we shall be based for 3 nights in our next hotel which has not only spectacular lake and mountain views but also a spa and wellness centre which you may wish to make use off at the end of a days’ motorcycling.
The ride-outs we have planned for the following two days will give you not only a flavour of the flowing roads of Bavaria through meadowlands and mountains but also a taste of Austria as we ride into the Ammergau Alps and lunch on the shores of Lake Plansee. Close to our hotel are the impressive castles of Neuschwantstein and Hohenschwangau and the historic town of Fussen where you can stroll through the medieval alleys and multi-coloured town houses.
On leaving Bavaria we ride north through the Black Forest and the Danube Valley crossing the Rhine River into the French Alsace region for an overnight stop. On our penultimate day of the tour we ride over the Col du Donon into the Parc Naturel de Lorraine on open, flowing roads typical of this region to our final hotel of the tour set in the heart of the Argonne Forest. Having enjoyed excellent French cuisine in our family run hotel, we depart the following morning on a cross country route before picking up the autoroute near Reims, the capital of the Champagne region, riding north to Calais for an afternoon Eurotunnel crossing to the UK.
